This is a truly well done film. Bravo George Clooney for great direction. Bravo Ryan Gosling – best performance I have seen so far. THERE ARE NO HEROES…. moments of OMG I don’t believe it. Go and rent. Trust no one.

An interesting film and a great first effort for director Mark Ruffalo. He also plays a priest in this film. The frustrations of an unlucky and unlikely faith healer who can’t heal himself…. It’s interesting how this fellow gets used by others …. Thought provoking….

Larry Crowne and I don’t know how she does it

2 good evenings of entertainment. Tom Hanks gives us all the perspective that life does not end after losing a job even if you didn’t go to college…. its never too late to go to school and learn a lot. An older student has some advantages in the world of hard knocks. You can make good contacts in school. A hopeful film.

Sarah Jessica Parker is quite good as the lady who does it all- motherhood, very demanding job and faithful (refreshing) wife. I say refreshing since many movies including Larry Crowne have some infidelity. It’s justified in some cases, but not every case. A positive look at modern women’s dilemmas.

Side note….. Just caught a glimpse of someone on TV I went to school with (he was ahead of me) at the University of Minnesota Theatre Dept. Peter Michael Goetz. Wherever you are, hope you are working, your family is well and it’s always a kick to see you on the tube.

This is a hoot….. says someone who grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and had a cousin who was a police officer there. Jon Hamm is reinforcing the image of a cad here… Good acting, great belly laughs and nice to see people get roles who aren’t the usual ingenue type….Some of the language I could do without … but this is a funny movie. For adults, young and old.

Always liked Sam Shepard….. did u know he is also a playwright? This is a beautiful film, very slow paced however – about what if Butch Cassidy hadn’t died as portrayed in the previous movie? Of course, there are thoughts of too bad Paul Newman is no longer with us ….. This film isn’t rollicking good fun like the previous one, but more of a test of endurance for the aging Butch; Which suits Sam Shepard’s prodigious talent. Grittily good western.

A lovely well done foreign film. Subtle. 2 youngsters face trouble in different ways, born on the same day. I particularly like the Dr. character who works with the sick in Africa. I think his solution of passive resistance while still doing his job was well thought out. We need more love in the world. Yes, there are bullies and jerks in the world and pain. Worth a look.

Why am I reviewing this? I had to see it because of the Hubby – it was his choice……. Daniel Craig is diverting and its nice to see Olivia Wilde get work and the acting is actually quite good by the human beings. Love Harrison Ford. Somebody thought mixing the 2 genres would be money making. Well… maybe it was… when aliens start gnashing their teeth at humans I tune out.

One Day

The one day is a date on the calendar over many years and the changes that happen on that day. An interesting idea. Anne Hathaway definitely proves her versatility here… A very good English accent and fine character work as she grows older and blossoms. Also growth in character in the male lead. Definitely worth the rental.

The Help

This is an outstanding film. It’s amazing how cruel we can be to people who are labeled different, less, and are in many cases, more hard working than the privileged. It is to their honor that “the help” were better parents than the actual parents to the white children. It’s a woman’s flick, but my husband also liked it.
